Exhibition of art medals and other works by Nadia Rozeva in Cifte Hammam

On April 11 2024, Thursday, at 19:30, an exhibition of art medals and other works by Nadia Rozeva will open in Cifte Hammam. The medals have been created between 2003 -2024. This is the first ehibition of its kind in North Macedonia and will focus the public’s attention on the interesting genre of the art medal.

Rozeva has included one of the architectural and cultural symbols of Skopje – the Old Post Office into her ehibition with the idea to focus the public attention on the urgent need for its resauration. The exhibition will continue until May 7, 2024.
Rozeva is an artist and designer, working in the fields of medallic sculpture, jewelry and product design. She is a student of Prof. Bogomil Nikolov, who has recently been named Doctor Honoris Causa of the National Academy of Arts (NHA) in Sofia and winner of the most prestigious world award for medallic sculpture of the American Numismatic Association “Saltus”. Rozeva started making art medals more than 20 years ago after completing her graduate studies in marketing at Rutgers University in New Jersey, USA. In 2003, she was invited to participate in a medal workshop of Prof. Nikolov in the Medallic Sculpture Studio at the National Academy of Arts (NAA). She worked remotely under his supervision for several years, and subsequently completed a Master’s degree in the “Metal” department of NAA. She has several specializations in Book Publishing from New York University (2000), Cultural Diplomacy (International Institute for Cultural Diplomacy, Berlin (2015), Cultural Management from University of Viena (2019). During the exhibition, Nadia Rozeva will make a presentation about the genre of the art medal, as well as will hold a workshop with students from different universities.
Works by Nadia Rozeva have been acquired for the permanent collections of the British Museum, London, the Royal Coin Cabinet, Stockholm, Sweden, the Bergen Museum at the University of Bergen, Norway, the National Art Gallery, Sofia, the Museum of Coins and Medals in Kremnitsa, Slovakia, etc.
The art medal began as an independent art form in the 15th century with the Italian painter Pisanello (c. 1395-1455) considered to be its father. The medal has no monetary value, but is historically associated with the coins. The medal is art for the hand. It is collected all over the world by both private collectors, museums and galleries, with the largest collections being in the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Museum of Art History, Vienna, the National Gallery of Art, Washington and many others.
During the first lockdown, Rozeva wrote the script and produced the short documentary “The Medal”, which will also be shown during the exhibition. The film aims to introduce the public to the art of the artistic medal, which has been her mission for the past 20 years. The prestigious international film festival “Master of Art” chooses “The Medal” for the opening of its spring edition in 2021. In the same year, the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute commissioned Nadia Rozeva to create the medals dedicated to the 30 Bulgarian Antarctic expeditions. She is also the author of the Grand Prize of the Bulgarian Film Festival “Golden Rose” of the National Film Center. As a jeweler, she created the silver brooches for the Women’s Business Forum of Forbes magazine (2022, 2023), the silver brooch in support of women – victims of domestic violence of the Emprove Foundation (2023), etc. She has several solo exhibitions and numerous participations in group exhibitions in Seixal, Sofia, Colorado Springs, Madison, New Haven, Tempe, Glasgow, Leuven, Ottawa, Tokyo, Florence, Bratislava, Kremnica, etc.
Nadia Rozeva is a member of FIDEM – the International Federation of Art Medals, as well as an Honorary member of the Slovak Art Medal Society.
