On 16 October 2025 (Thursday) at 8:00 PM, at the Chifte Hammam venue of the National Gallery of the Republic of North Macedonia, the solo exhibition by artist Verica Kovacevska, titled “When Water Runs Dry”, will be officially opened, curated by Dr. Ana Frangovska, Senior Curator at the National Gallery.

Water is positioned as the central metaphor and narrative thread running through the exhibition – symbolizing both life and renewal, as well as disappearance, memory and loss. The works open questions of architectural heritage, urban transformation, collective memory, and the ecology of space, intertwining personal narratives with broader social contexts.
Verica Kovacevska (1982, Skopje / lives and works in Zurich, Switzerland) is a multimedia artist whose practice is characterised by a research-based approach, engagement with public space, and active audience participation.

Her works have been presented in numerous group and solo exhibitions, as well as festivals, including Museum Tinguely (Basel), Museum of Contemporary Art (Skopje), Helmhaus (Zurich), Museum of Contemporary Art (Roskilde), Fondazione Merz (Turin), Manifesta 11 (Zurich), the 4th Moscow Biennale, and Urban Festival 10 (Zagreb).

Kovacevska holds a BA in Visual Arts with Theatre and Performance from the University of Plymouth and an MA in Arts, Culture and Education from the University of Cambridge.

She is the recipient of numerous awards, grants, and residencies. Since 2023, she has been a PhD candidate at HafenCity University (Hamburg), working at the intersection of artistic research, disability, and public space.

The exhibition will remain open to the public until 11 November 2025.
